Guus Mostart is to step down as Intendant on 1 January 2013
Guus Mostart (60) is to step down as Intendant of the Nationale Reisopera on 1 January 2013, to coincide with the end of the current government-subsidised period (2009-12). A new management structure for the Company, similar to that of the Netherlands Opera and Opera Zuid, will be introduced - namely the joint leadership of an Artistic and a Business Director departing from the current management structure of a one-man directorship, Intendant.
The Board has decided to appoint the position of Artistic Director from within the Company. Nicolas Mansfield, currently Artistic Administrator, will succeed as Artistic Director from that date. The Board has confidence in his ability to lead the Nationale Reisopera into a new creative period. Recruitment will take place shortly for the position of Business Director.
Guus Mostart: By 1 January 2013, I will have been Intendant of the Nationale Reisopera for nearly 13 years. For both the Company and myself, this seems to me a natural end to an exciting and eventful period. The opera world at present, not only in the Netherlands but internationally, stands on the threshold of a new era both financially and artistically. Now is the time for a new beginning. I think the Board has made an excellent choice. I have complete confidence that Nicolas Mansfield will prove an inspirational artistic leader to the Company.
